VolScroll (“the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use the App, why it is processed, and your choices.
A. Accessibility Service
- Purpose: To scroll other apps using the device volume keys.
- How it is used:
- The App intercepts volume-key events while scroll mode is on.
- The App sends scroll gestures to the currently visible screen.
- The App checks which app is in the foreground so that excluded apps (for example phone, camera, or lock screen) do not receive scroll gestures.
- Important:
- Accessibility is required for the App’s core scrolling feature. If you turn it off, volume-key scrolling will not work.
- We do not read, store, or upload passwords, chat contents, notification text, photos, or payment-screen contents.
- We do not use Accessibility to click buttons, fill forms, or control other apps beyond sending scroll gestures.
B. Overlay / Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW)
- Purpose: To show a floating control panel so you can start, pause, or adjust scrolling while using other apps.
- How it is used:
- The overlay is shown only after you grant the permission and start the App.
- You can hide the floating controls; VolScroll may continue running until you stop it.
- Important: Ads are not shown on the overlay or on top of other apps.
C. Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE)
- Purpose: To keep volume-key scrolling available after you leave the VolScroll settings screen.
- How it is used:
- While scrolling is running, the App uses a foreground service and an ongoing notification.
- You can stop the service from the notification, the floating controls, or the settings screen.
D. Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)
- Purpose: To show that VolScroll is running, and to provide controls (scroll on/off, show controls, exit).
- How it is used: The notification is a system requirement for the foreground service. It is not used for marketing messages.
E. Installed Apps List (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES)
- Purpose: To let you choose which installed apps should be excluded from volume-key scrolling.
- How it is used:
- The App reads the list of launchable apps on this device and shows it in the exclusion screen.
- Your exclusion choices are stored locally on the device.
- Important: We do not upload your installed-app list to our own servers.
F. In-App Purchase and Subscription Data (com.android.vending.BILLING)
- Purpose: To provide Premium features (for example page jump / Shorts skip, hiding floating controls, custom app exclusions, Quick Settings tile to turn scrolling on), to remove ads, and to restore purchases on other devices or after reinstall.
- How it is used:
- The App queries product details and purchase/subscription status from Google Play Billing.
- Purchase information is used only to determine whether Premium is unlocked and ads should be hidden.
- Important:
- Actual payment processing (e.g., credit/debit card data) is handled by Google Play, not by the App.
- We do not collect or store your full payment card numbers.
- Subscriptions (if you choose them) are billed and renewed by Google Play until you cancel in Google Play subscriptions.
G. Advertising Data (Google Mobile Ads / AdMob)
- Purpose: To show ads in the free version of the App, and to offer an optional rewarded ad that unlocks Premium features for a limited time.
- How it is used:
- The App uses the Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) SDK to request and display ads (for example banner, app-open, and rewarded ads).
- The SDK automatically collects and shares the following with Google and its advertising partners for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention:
- IP address, which may be used to estimate the approximate (city-level) location of your device,
- app interactions, such as app launches, taps, and ad views,
- diagnostic information, such as app launch time, hang rate, and energy usage,
- device identifiers, such as the Android advertising ID and the app set ID.
- The App does not request location permissions and does not access GPS. Any location information is limited to the approximate location that Google may infer from the IP address.
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and similar regions, the App may show a consent form (UMP) before personalized ads are requested.
- Important:
- Ads appear only inside the VolScroll settings UI. They are not shown over other apps or on the floating overlay.
- AdMob/Google may process data under their own policies.
- You can remove ads via a Premium subscription or lifetime purchase.
H. Network Access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE)
- Purpose: To load ads, complete Google Play Billing flows, show a consent form where required, and load fonts used by the App UI.
- How it is used: The App makes HTTPS requests to Google and related endpoints needed for those features.
- Important: The App does not operate its own backend that stores your personal data.
I. Local Device Storage
The App stores certain data locally on your device (for example, via SharedPreferences or similar storage), including but not limited to:
- scroll settings (speed, page-jump mode, overlay visibility),
- permission-related UI state,
- excluded-app list and lock-screen exclusion preference,
- premium entitlements such as:
- subscription / lifetime unlock status,
- temporary Premium unlock after a rewarded ad,
- advertising consent status (where applicable).
This data is stored locally on your device and is not automatically uploaded to our own servers.
2. Third-Party Services
The App may use third-party services/SDKs, including but not limited to:
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) – for displaying ads.
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) – for advertising consent where required.
- Google Play Billing – for handling in-app purchases and subscriptions.
- Google Fonts – for loading fonts used in the App UI.
These third parties may process data in accordance with their own privacy policies.
For Google services, see:
Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data.
Data may be shared only in limited circumstances, such as:
- when necessary to operate third-party SDKs/services (e.g., ads, billing, fonts),
- when required to comply with applicable laws, regulations, or legal processes.
Specifically, the advertising data described in section 1.G (IP address, app interactions, diagnostic information, and device identifiers) is shared with Google and its advertising partners for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention. This sharing happens automatically through the Google Mobile Ads SDK.
The App does not include a share/export feature that sends your content to other apps.
4. Data Retention
- Local app data remains on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the App (subject to your device/OS behavior).
- In-app purchase and subscription information is primarily managed and retained by Google Play in line with Google’s policies.
- Advertising data is processed by Google in line with Google’s policies.
- We retain information only as long as necessary to provide the App’s functionality and to comply with legal obligations.
5. Your Choices and Rights
You have various controls over how the App processes information:
- Permissions: You may grant or revoke overlay, notifications, Accessibility, and related permissions at any time through your device settings. Turning off Accessibility or overlay will disable the related features.
- Optional Features: Core smooth scrolling can be used without purchasing Premium. Premium features are optional.
- Ads:
- You may watch an optional rewarded ad for a limited Premium period, or skip it.
- You may purchase Premium to remove ads.
- You can reset your advertising ID or limit ad tracking in your device / Google settings.
- In-App Purchases and Subscriptions:
- You may purchase or choose not to purchase Premium.
- You may restore previously purchased eligible items using the restore functionality.
- You may cancel a subscription at any time in Google Play subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- App Data and Uninstall:
- You can clear the App’s local data through OS settings.
- You can uninstall the App to remove locally stored app data from your device (subject to OS behavior).
Depending on your region, you may have additional rights under local data protection laws.
You can contact us if you have questions about these rights.
6. Children’s Privacy
The App is not intended to knowingly collect personal data from children.
If you believe that a child has provided personal data through the App, please contact us and we will review and address the issue, including deleting data where appropriate.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed by the App.
However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International Use
Because the App is available globally and may rely on third-party infrastructure, information may be processed in countries other than your own.
Such processing is subject to applicable laws and the safeguards provided by those third-party service providers.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
If we make material changes, we will:
- update the Effective Date at the top of this document, and
- publish the revised policy.
Your continued use of the App after changes are made will signify your acceptance of the updated policy.
